IKEA Case Study - Project Management


The Client


The Ikea concept is to offer a wide range of well designed, functional home furnishing products at prices low enough that as many people as possible will be able to afford them.  The Ikea concept makes it possible to serve many by providing low priced products that contribute to helping more people live a better life at home.

The Ikea concept guides the way Ikea products are designed, manufactured, transported, sold and assembled. All of these factors contribute to transforming the Ikea concept into reality.

The Challenge


Ikea recently consolidated multiple state stores into one Superstore located in each state. To achieve this, the stores need to focus on transporting all of their stock, infrastructure and personnel to new locations.  There were issues surrounding storage, transport, staff needs and communicating the move to the public.  

This also involved the need to migrate all of Ikea’s IT equipment from multiple smaller stores into the Superstore with a minimum of disruption to their business and within strict time constraints.

The Solution


As Ikea’s provider of everyday operational support of Point of Sale and specialist back office equipment, Ikea chose to partner with Tech Precision’s expert Project Management Team.

Tech Precision was able to consolidate each store’s IT equipment into one Superstore in each state.  To complete this project Tech Precision were required to move critical equipment on a national level.  Equipment from superseded stores required decommissioning, disassembling, preparation for transport, securing of data, logistics handling and re-installation at each Superstore.

The Result


The project was completed without incident and on time, allowing Ikea to focus on other areas of the business during this busy period.

Ikea aim to minimise costs and maximise value for their customers. On a day-to-day basis are able to operate their IT department with minimal staff, supported by Tech Precision’s industry specific support, national coverage and experienced engineers.
